Who We Are
Initial Visit
Proby Horseshoeing is proudly owned and operated by Joe Proby APF-I. He has been in the industry as a working farrier for 5 years and specializes in English discipline horses, this includes Hunters/Jumpers, Dressage, and Eventing.
As an apprentice he worked under seven different farriers with a combined years of experience equating to roughly 200 years. During this time all breeds and disciplines were seen and dealt with.
Joe is an Accredited Professional Farrier (APF) with the first level of credentialing (-I) with the International Association of Professional Farriers (IAPF). To maintain this status he must complete 24 credits of continued education (CE) each year. With this organization he was also awarded the Roy Bloom Scholarship to attend the International Hoofcare Summit in Ohio in 2020. He is a Graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. His personal goal to your horse is to be better tomorrow than he was today.
Prior to your first appointment, we ask that you be in contact with your vet and get radiographs done on your horses feet. This assists in the shoeing process, and shows us how much sole depth and bone placement to name a few. This will also allow communication to open up between your farrier, vet, trainer, and owner, which is essential to achieving maximum comfort for your animal.
At the first visit we ask that you are present, or have someone there that knows your horse that might be able to answer any basic questions, additionally to be able to hold them if necessary. The first visit is where expectation and responsibilities of owners will be discussed.
Please understand that the first visit is likely going to be 30-60 minutes longer than a typical appointment, due to needing to watch the horse move as well as get to know your horse some on the ground.
